My Backyard Friends

This little guy visits my backyard every day.

He's a cute little guy - and yes, it's obvious he is a guy! He gets into everything in the yard including my bird feeder. So, despite the fact that I keep the squirrel feeder well-stocked, I've discovered that he'll leave his feathered friends' food alone if I scatter a little seed on the ground.

Look at those little paws. No wonder he can get into mischief!

The birds aren't afraid of him and sometimes they flutter down from their feeder to help gobble up the seeds on the ground. (See the Cardinal behind the rock?)

Here's a better look...

This bad boy is quite mean to the other birds - he'll even run off my doves that are twice his size. But, he's fun to watch in the birdbath!

And then there's this wild critter...

Max is none too happy to share the yard with the rest of them.

Very cute Dawn! I have to confess, I love birds, just not on my yard (lol) They're so pretty, but they poke the nastiest holes in my berries.

Had a taste of your Texas coffee yesterday :) Lovely. Even if it was decaf (lol)

So much drama is going on in your yard. I loved all the pictures you took to share with us all the creatures. Looks like they get along.

Beautiful, sweet pics. My little dog is about the size of a squirrel. When you said it's obvious he's a guy, I actually looked to see if he had "parts." I'm a ditz.

So do you have a mean zoom on your camera or is the wildlife especially tame down there?

I think the squirel is cute, but I don't have a yard, so what do I know, lol.

Blessings, Carolynn

BERRY GIRL: I understand about your berries. If I had a vege/fruit garden growing, I too probably wouldn't be as thrilled with my backyard critters. Glad you enjoyed the TX coffee (even decaf) - I think I sent a package or two of the full-strength stuff, also. Have PC check the labels on your next visit.

NADINE: The squirrel and birds (except for the blue jay) all do get along well. But, Max detests all of them and would welcome an opportunity to taste them. Ha!

2nd CUP: Well, actually... I do have photographic proof of his "maleness." I might just have to do a follow up post for you!

WILLOW: The birds and squirrels have all gotten pretty comfortable with my presence - especially since my presence equals food! I have actually gotten within three feet of the squirrel when making pictures but I am still using a good zoom for pictures like the ones of his paws. I tried to get closer once when he was on the trunk of our tree but he looked a little panicked and like he might actually jump on me, so I backed off.

Wow! Your backyard is a busy place!

My bulbs didn't fare too well. Not a single tulip of the 100 planted bloomed. SO sad. Maybe 10 or so grew leaves, but I think it got hot too soon and they burned up without ever blooming. Of the 100 ranunculus that we planted, I got maybe 10 r 15 blooms. Made me so sad.

Big news that I haven't blogged about yet (I will this week)...we are moving back to CO on Friday!!! I'm so excited! Maybe next year I can grow some bulbs that will thrive and not die. ;) Hopefully your bulbs will get cozy in the dirt over the summer and fall and bloom well next spring!

We have a blue jay that steals food from our cat! I've heard that they really are aggressive birds.

Your photos are fabulous! Such great pictures of the squirrel!
