What I've been up to lately...

Like most families at this time of year, things have been more than just a little busy around here. That means being on the computer and blogging have fallen by the wayside on most days. So what exactly have I been up to during these last few days of summer "vacation?" (Oh, yes... the quotation marks on the word vacation were very necessary!)

Well...

Kat has been coaching at a gymnastics and cheer camp for young children. She has been looking forward to doing this all summer and loves it. Her favorite neighbor girl attended two of the four weeks and was in Kat's group. Some days, the coaching continued in our front yard as the little girl wanted Kat to help her practice! Kat says she wants a little sister. (Sorry! No can do!)

In addition to coaching, Kat also has her own cheer practices. Competition season starts early this year, so practice had to start earlier, too. All this physical activity makes for one tired girl every night. So much so that we often find Kat asleep in random spots around the house... the chair in the living room, on the bed in the guest bedroom with the television turned on (we don't allow the kids to have televisions in their own room so they occasionally "sneak" into the guest bedroom to watch), and in the backseat of my vehicle en route to somewhere.

Summer band started for Burrito. This group of 200+ students returns to campus four weeks before anyone else and practices every day from 8 am 'til 4 pm! On black top. Remember, we live in Texas, people! Guess how long I'd have stayed in band? Right. About one hour. Burrito is playing a 40-pound bass drum this year. That's one third of his body weight. And, he loves it!

Two Saturdays ago, the band had a march-a-thon to raise needed funds. Although the drumline didn't have to participate in raising the funds this time, they still marched. After all, what's a marching band without the beat, right? They marched a distance equal to a 5K.

This past weekend, the drumline held their drum-a-thon to raise money specifically for their section, to mainly benefit their indoor season which begins in the early spring. They started drumming at 8 am on Friday and continued through 8 am on Saturday. This included a trip to our local outlet mall where they played for almost four hours and raised just under $500 from passersby! They are hoping to raise $10,000 in total pledges. (We'll know tomorrow if they made their goal.) Bud and I also chaperoned for several hours Friday night. We're getting too old for late night chaperoning!

In between these activities we've had our usual routine plus school supply shopping, welcome back breakfasts for teachers, birthday parties, sleepovers, and church activities. And, of course, we've watched the olympics whenever we've had the chance and could keep our eyes propped open.
Me? Well, I'm the schedule keeper, lunch packer, laundry maid, chauffeur to them all. Welcome to my world!

Four weeks from 8 to 4! That all you would have had to say and I would not be there. He is one dedicated boy.

I also think it is awesome that Kat takes the time to help your neighbor even after camp. Most kids would not want to do that. :)

Yea for Kat and Burrito...they are so dedicated! And big yea for Mom--your "job" is just as hard, ya know! Hope you get a breather soon.

And I can't believe you beat me to a new post. I will finish tonight, I hope. I can't believe you are still on that top post! sigh...

love you

Wow Burrito impresses me so much. His dedication is inspiring to me.

Plus, I know how hard Kat is working--being a cheerleader is so much more than the chants, cheers and stunts.

And, being a mom is the longest, toughest, most rewarding "job" you can ever be blessed to have. We need our mommies. And you're a great one!

Your family sure has been busy, and it sounds like your kids really are enthusiastic about their summer activities! Love those pictures...Kat looks especially adorable in her cheer outfit!

Oh yes...we've been glued to the Olympics whenever possible, too...I've been much more into it this time around for some reason! And it's the first time my girls have been old enough to understand and get excited about it, too! :)

Hope you enjoy these last few days of summer ...and get to relax just a bit!

Bless Burrito's heart! There is a high school right around the corner from my chiropractor and they've been practicing for weeks too. Every time me & hubby drive by on our way to or from an appointment in the 100+ degree heat, we comment how we would not want to be marching with heavy instruments in the hot afternoon sun. That is definitely commitment!!!
